Appliances You need to order your appliances and figure all of your sizes for everything by the the time you order you cabinets. Think of it like this. Lets pretend your going to order a kitchen and its going to look something like the one you see below.
You see the stove? That is a special order stove with a fan underneath the cabinet going down to the basement and then out the basement at the floor joist and the exhaust is on the exterior of the wall. You have to make sure that everything can fit and at the same time exhaust the correct amount of air to make everything work correctly. If you have to far of a run than sometimes you have to put an extra draw fan underneath in the basement. You also have to run the gas exactly to the right place in the cabinet. This is just a couple of the items you have to think about with the stove.
You see the refrigerator in the rear of the picture? That may seem very easy to you but with this kind of refrigerator and how we wanted it to look in the kitchen we had to build the rear wall out 8 inches before we even started putting in the cabinets. The double oven next to the refrigerator had issues with design. Not to mention the fact that it weighed 300 pounds and needed to have special weight bearings put in to hold it.
You have to set your cabinets to certain height specifications for your counter tops so you have to know how high your floor is and also the thickness of your counter tops. All of your counter tops come in different thicknesses and most of the time you have to know the exact size of your counter tops. Some companies sell granite that is less than 1 1/4 inch in thickness and if your not paying attention things can get difficult in a hurry. Anyways, the long story short is you better know what your doing or contract with someone who knows what they are doing. Its no fun to put in a $50,000 kitchen and not have it turn out the way you would like it to. One thing to consider. No matter how perfect you plan you normally have to make some kind of adjustments as you go along. If you do not have a flexible personality than be extremely careful with your planning and get a good contractor for sure. Kitchens and appliances are much more difficult to figure out than you might imagine.
