Brick

Colonial brick in Detroit is where we purchase most of our brick.  They also have another yard at 23 and N. Territorial toward Ann Arbor. The amount of knowledge that Dave Hall (our salesman) has is enormous.  You can give him a call if you like and he can set an appointment for you at his showroom.

Most of our homes take approximately 30,000 brick as an average.  We like to go all the way up but the cost exceeds some of our home owners expectations.  A good rule of thumb is figure a $1.00 to $1.50 a brick for a standard size brick.  This would normally cover the cost of the brick and the installation of the brick, mortar steel.  Cleaning the brick is a separate charge.  Be careful who you hire to clean the brick.  Some people will blow the face off the brick if they are not careful with a pressure washer and some cleaners will use to strong of a solution.  We don't use people with pressure washer's.  We prefer to find someone one who knows how to hand scrape the brick and than use an acceptable solution for cleaning.

Another view point is as follows:

Brick is such a unique item because there are so many different facets.  I will try to give you another viewpoint.  If you have purchased my video and watched it already, your mind should be pretty well informed on much of this information. A 2800 sq. ft. house will generally have about 14,000 to 16,000 bricks on it.  Normally a person will be satisfied with a brick which costs between $275 to $325 per thousand for purchasing the brick and then you have to pay an additional $450 to $600 per thousand to have them installed.  Plus you have extra's such as coining, role lock and decorative bricking. At the same time, you must have the brick company (Colonial Brick)  measure your plans and calculate all the necessary supplies needed.  The brick company will not be responsible for take offs on the brick estimate.  The builder or homeowner takes that responsibility.  I use an estimated figure of $1000 to $1200  per thousand total.  Normally this will cover all items including brick cleaning and house caulking.
