EXCAVATION

Depending
where you are located maybe I can recommend an excavator.
Mine is to busy at the moment.
Please call me at 313 670-7888 if you have need of one.
Excavating is paramount in the beginning
process. Its the second largest item you attend to after you plot plan your house
location. Try and have a visual understanding of your home and how the basement
comes into play when you are beginning the construction of your house. Much of the
character of your house comes into play with the excavation. The issue's with
walk-out basements, daylight basements and grade for your driveway including the
complications which can come up from not understanding or
not having the ability to see how
high or low you would like to have your house set out of the ground are paramount.
It took me years to see these different situations, and even today I sometimes call people
up and have them look at a piece of land with me so I can get another viewpoint.
Timing your dig with your basement company
is very crucial. You do not want to have a basement dug and then wait a day or two
or more before the basement gets poured. There are too many things that can happen.
You do not want it to rain if you can help it. Walls can cave in and then
they have to be hand dug, which costs more money. If at
all possible make sure your basement person and excavator are in within a
day or 2 of each other.
In this present market, try and call your
excavator and basement company two to three weeks in advance.
If you are not in our area find a
qualified excavator and get a quote. With the added knowledge of doing excavations all the time,
why not use their expertise in seeing things you might
not see, and probably won't be able to see. The difference in setting your
house correctly on the lot and not setting it correctly, along with the potential height difference and grade difficulties
can sometimes be overwhelming and costly. Do not underestimate costly.
One time a mistake cost me an additional $4500. Not peanuts to say the least.
Look at the picture at the top.
See the white pipe coming out of the ground with the 1 inch copper line?
Normally (in Michigan) the excavator will run your water line and install the
sewer line (assuming its city sewer) in your basement. (Note******This is
the time you want to figure out the location for these 2 items. If you want to
move them later it can be very expensive.
Pay attention now. This is very important.)
Try and put the copper line as close
to the footing as possible but leave enough room for the metering system later.
Normally I leave about a 1 to 1 1/2 ft space.
The sewer line will normally come
directly from where it is at the road and come straight in. You have some
latitude with this piping also. Get pricing of these items before having
excavator proceed.
