Redford Building Supply
Redford, MI
Great People with Excellent Prices
& Equally Excellent Service

This company has a wonderful understanding of the business.  If you need to order fill sand, mason sand, different kinds of gravel and want to understand what you are ordering at the same time, this is the company.

You need a broad understanding of the business.  I will try and simplify it the best way I can.  Let me sectionalize it for you.

  • You dig the basement

    a.  If you dig a huge basement (2500 sq. ft.) or more, you potentially have a problem if your lot is under 1 acre.  And you might have a problem even if your lot is over an acre.  It has a lot to do with the configuration of your land.  If you have the ability to raise your house higher and the municipality where you are building says its ok, then you can end up with less dirt to worry about.  BUT, what happens if you have to haul out a 500 or so  yards of dirt.  Guess what?  It can end up costing you several hundred dollars or more.  I just hauled away 90 yards of dirt.  With the bull dozer, front loader and the 28 yard truck to haul it out, the cost was $1400.   The extremes can vary greatly so be careful.  If you are not use to seeing these things you can make some big mistakes.  I am talking about big builders, small builders, and owners also who are building for themselves.  Its very helpful if you know what you are looking for.

  • Before you backfill your basement

    a.  Normally the people pouring your basement will bring in the needed pea gravel for your weeping tile and footings.  Its normally included in the price of your basement, so you do not have to worry about it.

  • You have backfilled the basement

    a.  Now you run across the potential problem of needing dirt.  If you look at your lot with someone experienced before you begin it is normally a great benefit to you.
